Is Yorktown/Williamsburg 'a good place to raise a family'?

Updated: Oct 15

With my two sons at Busch Gardens Williamsburg's Howl O Scream (while representing our elementary school and NFL team!).

Someone from out of town asked me recently if Yorktown/Williamsburg is a “good place to raise a family.” Everyone has different preferences and needs, so I can’t really answer that with a simple yes or no. And for stupid legal reasons, real estate agents technically aren’t supposed to talk about social questions that might be controversial.

But, I can tell you that, at least in my personal experience, MY family absolutely LOVES it here.

Here’s 5 reasons why:

1. We literally live in history - Williamsburg, Jamestown, Yorktown! My kids are so blessed to grow up surrounded by so many historic sites that others travel so far to visit!

2. We are close to so much! It's only a couple hours drive to the Outer Banks in the summertime or to Charlottesville to visit my alma mater (UVA) and go apple picking in the fall. Washington DC is only a few hours away and we will never tire of visiting the Smithsonian Museums and everything else that DC has to offer.

3. Water - we are surrounded by water! We love Yorktown Beach & the beach at Fort Monroe! There are so many beautiful beaches within a few minutes of our house.

4. Fun! We love that Busch Gardens & Water Country USA are in our “backyard.” Both are only a short drive away and we take full advantage of our season passes. Instead of having to travel to an amusement park, we can go whenever we want.

5. My kiddos have been blessed by some amazing teachers. I will forever be thankful to all the teachers who give back so much to our community!

With the number of people moving here, I guess the secret is out. Word has spread about how amazing a community like Yorktown/Williamsburg really is. While some locals dread the influx of out-of-town and out-of-state people moving here, they are coming for the same reasons we did: To be part of an incredible community. Of course, everyone has their own opinion on things like traffic and housing infrastructure, but I CAN tell you that right now, this is an absolutely amazing place to live.

And I wouldn’t want to be anywhere else.

So, that’s just my opinion.

What about you?
